Tulip Texas Flame Bulbs are a spectacular addition to any garden, featuring bold, flame-like petals that burst with a vibrant mix of yellow and red. These large, cup-shaped blooms stand out with their fringed edges and dramatic colour contrast, making them perfect for adding a focal point to borders, beds, or container gardens. Their striking appearance also makes them an excellent choice for cutting, bringing a burst of fiery colour to indoor flower arrangements. These tulips bloom in mid to late spring, providing a dazzling display that captures the eye in any garden setting.
Planting instructions
If you’re planting tulip bulbs directly in the ground in the fall, dig a hole that's about 3 times the height of the bulb. Place the bulb with the pointy end up, about 6 inches (15 cm) deep. Space bulbs about 4-6 inches (10-15 cm) apart. When planting in containers, use a container at least 6-8 inches (15-20 cm) deep. Plant bulbs at the same depth as in the ground, about 6 inches (15 cm) deep. Choose a container with good drainage. It could be a pot or a planter, as long as it has holes at the bottom to let excess water escape.
Growing Requirements
Pests
Watch out for common tulip pests like aphids and diseases like tulip fire. Regular monitoring and healthy soil practices can help prevent these issues.
soil
Tulips thrive in well-draining, fertile soil. Amend with compost to improve soil structure and fertility.
spot
Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot in the garden where the tulips can receive at least 6 hours of sunlight each day.
temperature
Tulip bulbs need a period of cold dormancy to bloom. Ideal temperatures range from 50-60°F (10-15°C) during this period, followed by a warmer spring.
watering
Water the bulbs thoroughly after planting and then sparingly during the winter months, increasing as growth appears in spring.
how to harvest
Tulips usually bloom in spring. To harvest blooms for bouquets, wait until the flower is fully open. Use sharp scissors or garden shears to cut the stem just above the leaves. Place cut stems immediately in a vase with clean water. Change the water every 2-3 days to prolong the life of your tulip bouquet.
