The ideal temperature for growing this Moringa is 21-35°C. This sun-loving plant doesn’t mind shade either. The best time to sow the Moringa seeds is from March-May or July-October. Soil
The Drumstick or Moringa plant is incredibly adaptable. It will thrive even when other plants are dying due to drought. Despite its ability to grow properly in dry soil, it prefers semi-watered soil. The gardening soil should be well-draining, wet soil will hamper the growth of the plant. Mixing potting soil and sand will help in creating well-drained soil for your Moringa plant.
Planting
It is advisable to grow moringa directly in garden beds since it grows to become a medium sized tree. Moringa trees develop taproots and require a lot of space for their roots in the soil. The distance between two moringa trees must be kept to a minimum of 3 meters for good growth. If the temperature in your area doesn’t drop below freezing, then you can plant Moringas directly in your gardens. Ideal soil temperature for germination of moringa seeds ranges between 20 to 26℃.
Plant the 5-6 Moringa seeds per garden bed at a depth of at least 1 inches deep. Thin to the one healthiest seedling per garden bed.
Watering
The soil, at all times, should be well-drained and not over watered. Your soil has poor drainage if the water stands on top of the soil. You can check the moisture level by simply sticking your finger into the soil. Water once or twice a week, depending on the climate you live in.
Transplant
Take your Moringa plants to their individual spots when they are about 6-8 inches tall. Carefully loosen the soil around the roots and move them to their final destination by keeping the root ball intact.
Care & Maintenance
To grow into a strong tree, your Moringa plant will need 6-7 hours of daily sunlight. Keep them in an area where they’ll receive sunlight throughout the day. Prune your plants when they’re about 8-10 inches tall to promote their growth. Any branch cut can be used to grow another plant.
Harvesting
From drumsticks, seeds, leaves to branches, you can harvest and use every part of this plant. You can harvest the seed pots when they are 10-12 mm in diameter and the leaves when the tree is about 3 feet tall. Moringa, the vegetable, can be plucked from the trees when they are green and tender.
